1. Preheat oven to 325°. 2. Grease loaf pan. 3. Combine dry ingredients. 4. Combine buttermilk and egg; add to flour mixture. Stir just until combined. 5. Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Invert bread onto a wire rack; cool completely.
Depending on your personal taste you can also add some or all of the following: 1 cup raisins or currants, 1 teaspoon orange zest or caraway seeds.
