Gatheredtable

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil
  • 2 tablespoons barbeque sauce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 4 hamburger buns

Directions

Prep: 1. Preheat grill. 2. Slice onion lengthwise, leaving rings intact. Make: 1. Mix together the beef, salt, pepper, dry mustard, paprika, chili powder, soy sauce and water in a large mixing bowl. 2. Form the meat into patties. 3. Lightly oil and season both sides of each onion slice with salt and pepper. 4. Oil grill grates and place burgers and onions on the grill. Cook for about 3 minutes per side (or longer for a more well done burger). 5. Top each burger with a slice of cheese and a grilled onion slice. 6. Toast the buns over direct heat. 7. Top each burger with barbecue sauce.

Notes

You can also do these without a grill using a grill pan or skillet. Just heat a few teaspoons of oil over medium-high heat and cook burgers for 3-4 minutes per side. If you have a favorite bbq or steak seasoning you can use that instead of the other spices. Check out our favorite tips for grilling here - http://blog.gatheredtable.com/2015/06/26/barbecue-basics/
