Basil Flatbread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup basil, divided
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon of water

Directions

Prep: 1. Preheat oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Chop all but 10 leaves of basil. 3. Separate the egg and combine the white with the water. Make: 1. Combine the flour, chopped basil, salt and sugar. Crumble in the butter with your hands, until the consistency resembles bread crumbs. 2. Mixing constantly, slowly add in the cream and mix until a soft dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes. 3. Divide dough into 2 pieces and roll out dough on floured surface with a pin until 1/8 inch thick and transfer to baking sheet. 4. Press the whole basil leaves into the dough and brush with egg white mixture and sprinkle with sea salt. 5. Bake for about 12 minutes. (a little longer if the dough is thicker)
