Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Prep: 1. Cut the apples into slices and cut those slices in half. 2. Juice lemon. Make: 1. Mix apples, lemon juice, and water in a saucepan. Stir apples to coat thoroughly with the mixture. Cover the apples and cook over medium heat for 7 minutes. 2. Add 1/2 cup sugar (you can add more or less depending on taste and the sweetness of your apples). 3. Turn heat down to medium-low and cook uncovered until water evaporates and apples are tender, about 10 minutes. Stir in cinnamon. 4. Using the spoon or a potato masher, mash apples to desired consistency (we like to leave them pretty whole). 5. Serve warm, or store covered in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Notes

You can easily adjust the sugar based on the desired sweetness - we recommend starting with 1/4 cup and working up to 3/4 cup. We love to leave the apple pieces mostly whole for a hearty addition to dinner.
